This collection of rainforest essays were written by 7th Graders at Adobe Middle School in Elko, Nevada. Elko is a desert climate in a rural gold mining community. Students studied rainforests as part of their geography curriculum. In this assignment, students had to convince others to save the rainforest by explaining all the valuable resources that come from the area. They were surprised to find out that, even living in Nevada, how much we rely on the rainforests. Students also had to come up with ways to save rainforests. I hope you enjoy their essays and after reading, you also want to save the rainforests. Together we all can make a difference!

People that drink coffee would be so mad because of the Rain forest being destroyed. They would be mad for a while because they don’t have coffee to drink in the morning. When people go to work they need coffee to wake them up. Also for the people that like the other items on this chart people like them and then will be upset that their favorite food is gone.
We need paper for school but why would u want to destroy a beautiful place with the tree, and grass. The reason why they are destroy the rainforest because they need more room for stuff like more stores and buildings. In some places they dump their trash in the water and the fish and animals die because the water is all nasty and the animals have nothing to drink.
Most of the animals that live in the rainforest such as hawks, snowy owls, woodpeckers, raccoons, opossums, and red foxes. Some people don’t care about these living animals. People think that the rainforest should be gone and make more room, and stores.

If we teach the farmers how to grow trees they could cut down their own trees instead of the rainforest trees. You can always recycle so the trees don’t die. You can donate to organization that help protect the rainforest.
Thank you for reading

The fact that the rainforest is being destroyed because of commercial logging to make furniture and other things is very sad because the rainforest helps with oxygen and people don’t understand that they are destroying the rainforest. They cut down trees for cattle grazing. They destroy the trees to build highways so people can drive on. They also cut trees down to plant crops. They use the forest for mining.
We need to save the rainforest because people are being displaced and losing their homes. More and more erosion happen each day because of the people cutting down trees. The extinction of animals is beginning to happen. 50% of all plants and animals live in the rainforest. Those are being killed because of starvation, then extinction begins to happen.
The rainforest is home to many animals and what’s a life without animals. Monkeys depend on the rainforest and now that people are cutting down trees what are the monkeys going to do. Snakes live in the rainforest as well and they need to survive on their prey which sometimes comes from the rainforest. You really need to save the rainforest because these animals mean a lot to the world because they all base off of a food chain and if extinction happens, a lot of animals will die because you didn’t do anything to help them and wont u feel bad?
50% of the animals and plants live in the rainforest. The rainforest can produce some medicine. The rainforest produces our oxygen how do u think a world without oxygen will be? The rainforest produces kola nuts which makes coca-cola and who doesn’t like coca-cola. The rainforest also makes chocolate, gum, sugar, ginger, black pepper, and pineapple imagine you can’t eat all these things and more you would probably wish you had done something to save these rainforests.
One way to save the rainforest is to not buy products that promote the rainforest destruction. Another way is to write to the congress for them to make a law to help the rainforests. We can recycle paper to save the trees. We can donate money to the Organisations that are trying to help the rainforest. We can educate the people and ask them to not cut anymore trees down and explain what they are doing to our community. We can also teach the farmers how to replant the trees.
Thank you for taking your time to read this.
Sincerely, Nesly Pulgar
The rainforest is being destroyed because of commercial logging., all of the trees are being chopped down more than 5 million acres of trees are chopped down. Also because of farming and growing crops it is making the soil very poor of fertile. They say they need space for grazing and farming but it is making the soil very weak. Roads and highways are destroying the growth of trees.
Everyone should help save the rainforest because soil is becoming very nutrient and poor. Without trees hold the soil in place, it washes away. Without transportation, the land turns into a desert. The extinction of species, disruption to the cycle of life. There is also global warming and also climate change. The Native people who have lived there for centuries are losing their homes.
50% of all the plants and animals live in the rain forest. That means if the rainforest were to get destroyed all the animals wouldn’t have a home or somewhere to live, and that is not fair to them. They would probably end up dying. All of the animals are important in some type of way, and we don’t want to destroy that. Animals that could be getting hurt are sloths, snakes, anteaters, monkeys and, tree frogs.
Their are SO many resources in the rainforest. Some of these things are very important to our environment and we can not let get destroyed. Some of these things are sugar, papaya, medicine, pineapple, kiwi, chocolate, avocado, oxygen and so much more things.
To save the rainforest people need to stop cutting down so many trees. Everyone can save the rainforests by not using so much paper or, stop buying furniture that is made by tropical woods. Instead of cutting down a whole rubber tree we can just tap the tree instead of cutting down the whole tree this way there will be more trees but we still will have some rubber to use also so the tree will still grow.

A lot of people are cutting down rainforest trees because of mining, planting crops, commercial logging, cattle grazing, and highways. We do need a of this stuff but we do need rainforest to get food such as bananas, chocolates, and more. There are more reasons on why the rainforest are getting destroyed but I can’t name them all.
The rainforest is very important because we get food from rainforest. We get furniture and more stuff. We need food to live but if their are no rainforest we will properly die of hunger and People will lose their homes. Soil becomes a nutrient-poor. Without trees to hold the soil in place it washes away. Without Transpiration (water cycle) the land turns to a desert.
50% of all plants and animals live in the rainforest. If we lose the trees there will be no animals like sloths, tree frogs, bees, monkeys, snakes and more. These animals are very important for everyone. You might not think so but animal are like us the are trying to live.
If the rainforest are getting destroyed we won’t have food. If their is no food we could die of hunger. If their is no medicine we can get sick and could die too. If there is no oxygen there will be no animal and we can die because we need oxygen so we need rainforest too. Some food that we get from rainforest tapioca, avocado, pineapple, cashews, chocolate, gum, ginger, and more.
Trees are very important for everyone but most people don’t know it, But we can save the rainforest by recycle paper, Teach farmers how to replant trees, and Establish national parks. If we a have a tree harvesting that can save the tree.
Sincerely,
Robyn Salaz
The rainforest is being destroyed so people can plant crops and cattle grazing. People are also destroying the rainforest so they can commercial log and mine and clear out areas for highways and roads. The effects of the rainforest is that animals and plants will die and go extinct and that will disrupt the circle of life.
Another thing is that native tribes are losing their land and being displaced. The soil becomes nutrient-poor and crops can only grown for a couple years on a piece of land. Next erosion is another bad effect of cutting down the rainforest because with erosion without trees to hold down the soil will wash away and then it also can transport water and the rainforest becomes a desert. When people cut down trees it affects animals like the howling monkeys, jaguars, snakes, three toed sloths, and toucans by taking away food sources and places to live and hide and if they don’t have any places to live or hide or the food sources are cut off the animal will go extinct.
Finally some supplies we use everyday like medicine, soap, sugar, rubber, pepper, pineapple, the cola nut, gum, chocolate and most important oxygen will not be here if people keep cutting down trees.
In conclusion there are many ways to protect and save the rainforest by not buying products that will cause the destruction of the rainforest and recycle also donate money to organizations that will help protect the rainforest.
Sincerely,
Alissa Strom
