Rainforest Fund Projects Report
At Rainforest Fund, we are proud to support Indigenous-led initiatives around the world. This year, thanks to your generosity, we are funding projects that defend land rights, combat deforestation, and strengthen community governance across many countries. Since our inception, we have raised over $45 million and funded more than 300 projects to help Indigenous communities protect their lands and livelihoods. None of this would be possible without your support!
Some of our current projects include supporting the Araribóia and Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau communities in Brazil as they defend their territories from illegal invasions. We are also helping establish Indigenous-run fire brigades in the Upper Xingu and working with our longtime friend, Chief Raoni, and the Kayapo community to improve the marketing of sustainable forest products. Additionally, we are launching a legal clinic to train Indigenous lawyers, ensuring they have the tools to protect their rights for generations to come.
In Kenya, we are working with the Ogiek of Chepkitale to strengthen governance, secure land rights, and support local schools. In Ecuador, we are raising awareness about the devastating effects of gold mining while helping restore ecosystems harmed by mercury pollution. In the Philippines, we are supporting Indigenous communities in their fight against illegal land grabs and the destruction caused by nickel mining.
These are just a few of the impactful projects we are involved in. In regions such as the Congo Basin, Borneo, West Papua, Uganda, Peru, and Costa Rica, we continue to stand with Indigenous Peoples who are fighting not just for their lands and rights but for the future of our planet.
