Txai Suruí

November 5, 2021 By Rainforest Fund 1 Comment

Rainforest Fund is so proud of Txai Suruí for having the courage to take the stage at the opening ceremony of the climate conference in Glasgow. Txai Suruí, a 24 year old indigenous woman spoke in front of 100 world leaders to share her message to the world. We are proud to be apart of her momentous journey supporting both her and her parents at a critical moment in history. Txai is the daughter of the great Chief Almir Suruí and the legendary activist Ivaneide Suruí. Rainforest Fund was the first fund to support Chief Almur in 2008 when he declared his traditional land off limits to illegal loggers and had a bounty on his life. Through RFUND’S support Chief Almir was able to secure the protection of his life and community. He became an International recognized voice for the protection of the Amazon and its indigenous inhabitants. During the fire season of 2019, Taxi’s mother Ivaneide and her organization called out for support to help protect the largest remaining indigenous rainforest in the Southern Amazon. Rainforest Fund was able to provide critical support to the indigenous communities in the region and directly support the vital work of Ivaneide in protecting the remaining uncontacted tribes of the Amazon as well as their forests. Rainforest Fund would like to thank all of our supporters for helping us provide the necessary support in these critical moments.
